Short Breaks & Day Trips
Girvan is a top Scottish destination for a short break holiday or a day trip.
If you've never experienced Girvan then you could be in for a treat.
This beautiful seaside town has lots of things to see and do for people of all ages.
The first thing that strikes you about Girvan is it's friendliness, beauty and charm. The harbour area is often busy with people and boats including lifeboats from all over Scotland that travel here to be repaired. You can walk along both sides of the harbour - The north side boasts the beautifully renovated coal dock area whilst the south side has a floral garden seating area where you can watch the world go by. You can choose to take a boat to visit the majestic Ailsa Craig or take part in the many fishing opportunities available.
Children will love to play on the sandy beach which stretches out offering views to Ailsa Craig and nearby coastal towns. You can enjoy a stroll from the harbour along the beach and take time out for lunch whilst looking out to sea.
Walking
Girvan is a popular area for walking and there are countryside walks in and surrounding the area for walkers of various abilities. Currently under development is The Carrick Way and the popular South Carrick Walking Festival takes place around September each year.
Shopping and Arts and Crafts
If shopping is your thing then you'll be pleased with the charm of Dalrymple Street lined with a number of small independant retailers offering a friendly welcome and souveniers to take home. There are many places where you can buy Girvan arts and crafts and you can also take part in a full programme of craft activities and workshops.
Sport
If you are more inclined towards sport then of course there are lots of activities to take part in from the gentle to the extreme including fishing, walking, windsurfing, sailing and golf. Just a short ten minute drive up the coast are the world renowned Turnberry Golf Courses or you could enjoy a round at Girvan golf course or Brunston Castle.
Families
Kids will love Girvan swimming pool, fun in the park and completing your evening with a real taste of Scotland - a Girvan fish supper followed by the best ice cream cone! Adults will enjoy a warm welcome in the many local pubs and local nightclub.
Nearby Attractions
Girvan is of course close by to many Robert Burns attractions including Souter Johnnie's Cottage in the nearby village of Kirkoswald. Nearby is the infamous cannibal Sawney Beans cave for those who dare to venture there and Culzean Castle and Country Park is also very worthy of a trip. Ayr, home of Burns and Glasgow can easily be accessed by train or bus.

There is a year round programme of events and activities going on in Girvan including the Folk Festival, Girvan Cycle Race, The Lowland Gathering, South Carrick Walking Festival, Halloween Parties at Stumpy Jail, The Festival of Light and the Girvan Christmas Street Party.
